You Know What Happens When You Assume Right?

as•sume

verb

  1. suppose to be the case, without proof
  2. take or begin to have power or responsibility

I take a few data points, I fill in the blanks with my own opinions, thoughts, assertions, memories, feelings, values and experiences… leading to an assumption that is way off base…

Sound familiar?

I made an assumption recently leading up to a very important event last night that left my wife unaware that I was actually sharing at this event. I made an assumption that she knew based on a few data points that told me in my mind that she was aware.

Did I actually say the words, “Hey, I’m speaking next Thursday night, I would love it if you were able to attend.”

That would be a big fat no…

I am sharing this for two reasons:

  1. To warn you against the dangers of assuming anything in this life. Have the balls to ask the questions, say the words and seek full understanding of a situation before making any decisions
  2. To apologize publicly to my wife of 21 years and to let her know that I truly did not intend to leave her out and I acknowledge the hurt it caused. I love you more than anything in this world!

I hope you can forgive me and the next time you see me, please kiss this ass!
